My Approach to IVF Coaching

Perhaps you’ve already gotten plenty of fertility tips and well-meaning advice…

Hand holding a white megaphone against a blue circular background.

... from family, friends and social media, but most of it doesn't translate into emotional support or actionable information.

That's why our work together starts with listening and meeting you exactly where you are on your fertility journey.

Every person’s IVF experience  is unique. I strive to create a trusting, judgement-free, supportive space where you can express your hopes, frustrations and challenges and where you can be heard and develop resilience.

Your IVF coaching sessions can focus on grounding and emotional resilience or practical planning. We can tackle specific topics like preparing questions for your doctor, creating an IVF timeline, or building a treatment budget—with templates and tools to make things easier.

Over time, you’ll develop a strong foundation of support and the clarity and confidence to navigate your IVF journey with intention.

A few facts

IVF is a fact of parenthood today. You didn’t wait too long, go out too many nights, stress too much about those deadlines, not take enough vitamins.

Many people are coming to parenthood later in life and IVF is a completely normal part of that decision. Whether you’re starting your first cycle, or further into your experience, you should know:

About Me

I'm Cynthia and I was in my late-30s when I felt ready to be a parent.

Harbor IVF Doula Cynthia.

My career was stable-ish, I had a life-partner, I thought, OK, here we go. My high school sex-ed curriculum had made unintended pregnancy sound as common as a head-cold – I thought getting pregnant would be a cinch.

Wrong.

Apart from having undergone over 4 years of IVF with a range of procedures and complications . I also have a background as a documentary filmmaker and a writer, with a practice of bearing witness to those who are navigating challenging life circumstances and decisions.

I believe we each have the capacity to develop the emotional and practical skills to create the kind of IVF experience we want for ourselves.

FAQs

Everything you need to know about IVF coaching and IVF Doula support.

How can I find a clinic or doctor that I can trust?
Asking plenty of questions and doing a serious gut-check is critical to finding an IVF provider that’s right for you. You can get a lot of information from how the doctors respond to your questions and whether they take the time to answer them thoroughly. The first thing to know is that you are going to be spending A LOT of time at your doctor’s, especially around egg retrieval, when bloodwork and ultrasounds can be daily. So put yourself first: is the provider convenient for you to get to? Can you envision how daily appointments will fit into your schedule? Are you COMFORTABLE? Do you like the vibe of the waiting area?

How do I assess my fertility and what is AMH?
A critical component to understanding your fertility and chances of success with IVF, is knowing your ovarian reserves, which decline with age. This is determined through a blood test that measures anti-Müllerian hormone levels. Knowing your AMH levels is an important tool to help you make decisions around IVF. If your levels are diminished, especially for younger patients, you may want to begin IVF treatment sooner than later.
Read my blog post about the importance of knowing your AMH levels as you begin IVF!
What did you wish you knew before starting IVF?
There’s lots of things no one ever tells you about IVF, even when you’ve been doing it for a while. For instance, it took me years to discover that if I do my injections very slowly, it reduces the swelling and discomfort around the injection site. Or when you’re doing those blood draws, make sure to show up as hydrated as possible - the more hydrated you are, the faster the draw. I wish I’d known I had choices - is a certain medication or protocol not working for you - maybe there’s another option. And small plastic water/soda bottles make great portable sharps-containers!

How does an IVF Doula differ from a therapist?
An IVF Doula provides specialized, non-clinical support tailored specifically to IVF and assisted reproductive technologies. An IVF Doula has a body of knowledge and experience focused on the unique emotional, physical, and logistical challenges of fertility treatment, from medication cycles and procedures to uncertainty, decision fatigue, and waiting periods. A therapist, by contrast, is a licensed mental health professional providing long-term, clinical care, usually through weekly sessions. Therapy addresses broader mental health patterns and may include fertility stress, but IVF is not the primary organizing framework of care. Many people find the two roles complementary and choose to work with both.
